A recently-retired partner of a landscape architecture firm, Matthew Hall has spent his career as a steward of the land - albeit in the urban context. His design focus in high-density residential, recreation and international projects earned him recognition by the American Society of Landscape Architecture and American Institute of Architects. In addition to leadership in design, Matthew drove the cultural and professional development of the staff, instigating such programs as EPTDESIGN University and TREK, which helped his firm earn Outside Magazine’s “Best Places to Work” honor. As a transplant from Ohio, he and Annemarie have found peace in the eastern Sierra in pursuit of alpine adventures.

The Landscape Designer Since 1990, Annemarie designed gardens and private landscapes for a variety of clients. Her work was featured in magazines and her projects have received accolades by the Southern California Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for excellence in design.

The Artist In addition to landscape design, Annemarie expresses her creativity through the brush. For the past few years, she has been exploring the urban and pastoral landscapes of southern California and rural Canada, en Plein Aire. With a desire to reconnect the viewer’s attention with ordinary moments of life, many scenes include views of pastoral landmarks as seen juxtaposed against their urban edges. In addition, many views are “snapshot” taken from a larger landscape to focus attention on the simple details.
